Teen, 17, Charged with Murder After Firework Blaze Kills Pensioner
A 17-year-old boy has appeared in court accused of murdering a 76-year-old pensioner, Robert Price, who died in a house fire sparked by a firework thrown into his home in Dagenham, east London.
Old Bailey Hearing as Teen Faces Murder, Arson Charges
The unnamed teenager appeared via video link from Vinney Green youth detention centre in Bristol at the Old Bailey today. He is charged with murder and arson with intent to endanger life. The court confirmed his identity and set a plea hearing for October 18. The trial is provisionally lined up for May 12 next year.
Firefighters Find Victim Dead After Blaze
Paramedics and firefighters rushed to Oval Road North shortly after 5:40 pm on Saturday, July 27. They forced entry to the property and discovered Robert Price’s body. A post-mortem confirmed he died from smoke inhalation and burns.
Police Appeal for Witnesses After Suspicious Fire
Police are treating the fire as suspicious, believing it was deliberately started when the firework was thrown inside the home of a vulnerable adult. Another man initially arrested has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.
