Knife Carrier Escapes Murder Charge in Lee’s Fatal Stabbing
Treyvon Ejiogu, 18, from Empress Avenue, Waltham Forest, London, has been handed a suspended sentence after admitting possession of a knife and involvement in class A drug supply. Bristol Crown Court sentenced him to 24 months, suspended for two years, on 18 January.
Crucially, Ejiogu was found not guilty of the murder of 33-year-old Lee, who died in October 2021 from a single stab wound to the chest despite desperate efforts by the public to save him.
Detective Condemns Knife Carrying
“The defendant admitted to carrying a knife for his own protection – there can never be any justification for carrying a knife or weapon of any kind,” said DCI Phil Walker.
“If you carry a knife, you put yourself in danger of using it or having it used against you.”
“I’d also like to pay tribute to Lee’s loved ones – it has not been an easy process for them to listen to details of his final moments in court, but they have dealt with this with the utmost dignity.”
Trial Drama: Hung Jury Delays Verdict
The verdict follows a previous trial last April that ended in a hung jury, leaving the case unresolved until today’s ruling.
