Teen Gang Member Found Guilty of Rush-Hour Station Murder

A violent 17-year-old, linked to gangs, has been convicted of stabbing a 16-year-old boy to death during rush hour at a busy London commuter station.

Murder at East Croydon Station

Louis Johnson was attacked on 27 January at East Croydon station shortly before 4:30pm. The teenager approached Louis and his friend on the station’s overbridge and pulled out a large ‘zombie’ knife hidden in his trousers. He stabbed Louis once through the chest.

Emergency medics tried to save him, but Louis tragically died at the scene.

Shocking CCTV Footage and Arrest

  • The 17-year-old was caught on CCTV forcing his way through the station barriers and running away, still clutching the knife.
  • He fled to Chichester and shaved off his long hair in a bid to disguise himself.
  • Two days later, he handed himself into police.
  • A matching knife was found three days after the attack dumped in a chicken shop in Tooting.

Justice for Louis

The defendant was found guilty of murder at the Old Bailey on 18 September after a two-week trial. Sentencing is set for 16 October.

“It’s frankly unthinkable that anyone would commit such a brazen act of violence in broad daylight at a busy station full of commuters and school children,” said British Transport Police Detective Superintendent Sam Blackburn.

“Louis was only sixteen with his whole life ahead of him. His heartbroken family are still coming to terms with their loss.”

“I want to thank the brave witnesses who helped save Louis and had the courage to relive the terrifying events in court. No sentence will ease the pain, but they can find some solace knowing the killer will spend many years behind bars.”
