Tragic Death of Young Driver Alice Birchall in Manston Lane Smash
Alice Birchall, 22, tragically died in hospital on Saturday, June 18, after a serious crash on Manston Lane just before 8.43pm. She was driving a grey Nissan Juke when it collided with a grey Audi RS Q3. The Audi’s driver, a 34-year-old man, and his eight-year-old passenger girl were both seriously injured and remain in hospital.
Family Heartbroken Over ‘Caring and Considerate’ Alice
Alice’s family paid a moving tribute to their beloved daughter: “Alice was the most caring and considerate young woman you would ever wish to meet.” Both of her parents died when she was young, forcing her to grow up fast and become a guardian to her younger sister Amy.
“She protected Amy with her whole heart and gave her excellent care. Alice is adored by an army of people,” the family added.
Alice had just graduated with a history degree and landed her dream job in fine jewellery, which she was due to start in two weeks. “She was the happiest she’d ever been, with her entire future ahead of her.”
Amy is devastated by the loss of her sister and best friend. The family is still in shock and crushed by the cruel tragedy. “Alice deserved so much better than this,” they said.
Police Appeal for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage
Officers from the Major Collision Enquiry Team continue to investigate. They are urgently seeking anyone who witnessed the crash or the events leading up to it.
Police want to hear especially from anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage of the grey Audi RS Q3 travelling along Whitkirk Lane, Austhorpe Lane, and Manston Lane towards William Parkin Way and The Springs retail park between 8.35pm and just before the crash at 8.43pm on June 18.
