Leeds Man Jailed for Over 11 Years in Shocking Trafficking Case
Anghel Iordache, 49, from Harehills, was handed an 11-year-plus prison sentence this month at Leeds Crown Court. The sentencing follows a serious investigation triggered by a welfare check in Leeds earlier this year.
Welfare Check Uncovers Dark Secret
Police launched their probe in March after a welfare request led them to Iordache’s address. Upon his arrest, officers found two vulnerable women and immediately put safeguarding measures in place to protect them.
Police Hunt for More Victims of Exploitation
Leeds Child Vulnerable to Exploitation Team (CVET) believe Iordache may have trafficked other women into the UK for sexual exploitation. Detectives are urging any potential victims to come forward.
“I hope that this outcome gives people the confidence to report activity that could be linked to modern slavery to the police,” said Detective Inspector Al Cheyne. “We want to take action against those involved in this heinous practice.”
“Now that Iordache is behind bars, we appeal to women who believe they were trafficked by him to get in touch. Our specially trained officers will provide full support and work discreetly to bring these criminals to justice.”
If you have any information or believe you may be a victim, contact Leeds CVET immediately. The fight against modern slavery continues.
