Canvey Island drug dealer caught with knife and hammer in car
Police spot suspicious car on Cedar Road
On Tuesday 30 June, officers stopped a rundown vehicle parked on Cedar Road, Canvey Island. The car’s battered bodywork raised eyebrows, prompting police to question the driver, 22-year-old Gentian Peka.
Driver refused to explain why he was parked
As police spoke to Peka, he grew agitated and refused to say why he was lingering in the spot. Suspicious, officers searched him under the Misuse of Drugs Act and inspected the car.
Knife, hammer, drugs and cash found
The search uncovered a knife and hammer lying in the driver’s footwell. More damningly, officers found several wraps of suspected Class A drugs and over £400 cash.
Dealer jailed for over two years
Peka, from London Road, Benfleet, was arrested and charged with possession of a knife in public, possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, and handling criminal property.
He pleaded guilty at Basildon Crown Court on 30 July and was sentenced on 12 October to two years and three months behind bars.
Investigating officer PC Samuel Scrivener said: “This is a great result and it should send a message to all would-be drug dealers. If you plan on selling drugs on Canvey Island, officers will work hard to find you and get you behind bars.”
