Three Jailed for Camden Stabbing Murder of Bright Akinleye
Three men have been locked up for the fatal stabbing of 22-year-old Bright Akinleye in Camden back in February 2019. The verdicts and sentencing came down at the Old Bailey on Monday, 29 June.
Life Behind Bars for Two Murderers
- Abdoulie Ceesay, 29, with no fixed address, and Tashan Brewster, from Kennington Park Road, SE11, were found guilty of Bright’s murder on 9 March.
- Both received life sentences with a minimum of 21 years behind bars.
- A third man, Oliver Petts, 30, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was handed a five-year sentence.
Brutal Attack Sparked by Social Media Beef
Detective Inspector Jamie Stevenson of the Met’s Specialist Crime Command said:
“Today’s sentencing is the culmination of our investigation into the needless death of another young man. Our thoughts remain with Bright’s family as they continue to struggle to come to terms with him being snatched from them. This fatal stabbing stemmed from several people being involved in taunting on social media. I still cannot comprehend how it ended in such a violent murder.”
Bright was filming a drill music promo video with a rapper he managed when the deadly attack unfolded.
Knife Attack in Camden Flat Leads to Tragic Death
On the night of 18 February 2019, Bright was stabbed inside a flat near Euston after earlier filming in Deptford and Euston. Despite multiple wounds, he managed to wrestle the knife free and run to a nearby hotel.
He collapsed at the hotel and was pronounced dead at 11:31pm. The fatal stab wound was to his leg.
DNA evidence on the knife linked it directly to Brewster.
Police investigations revealed a nasty feud behind the attack, fuelled by online taunts and threats. Petts and Brewster travelled to the Euston flat together before the stabbing.
CCTV tracked Petts’ Mercedes going from south London to Euston that night. The car was later found dismantled in Kent.
Mobile phone data confirmed the suspects’ locations and showed calls coordinating the assault.
Ceesay and Brewster were arrested two days after the attack, with Petts caught a week later. They now pay the price for Bright’s tragic death.
