Drug Trio Busted Smuggling Coke from Peru
The National Crime Agency has cracked a major cocaine ring involving a Lymington-based drug courier, his girlfriend, and a business partner. Glynn Davies, 44, made several trips to South America in 2017 and 2018, hauling high-purity coke into the UK.
Foil-Wrapped Cocaine Snatched at Gatwick
Davies was caught red-handed by Border Force officers at Gatwick Airport in July 2018, landing on a flight from Lima, Peru. Officers found two foil-wrapped packets totalling one kilo of top-grade cocaine hidden in his jeans. Once cut and sold on UK streets, the haul was worth a staggering £80,000.
Girlfriend and Business Partner Named in NCA Probe
Phone checks revealed Davies was in constant contact with his 24-year-old girlfriend Sheena Spedding, who organised his travel and hotel arrangements. He even sent her photos of the drugs over WhatsApp. Meanwhile, credit card records and messages pointed to their 35-year-old business partner, Lee Hollister, footing the bill for flights and offering guidance.
Police searches of Hollister’s Lymington home uncovered drug-dealing paraphernalia including scales and packaging bags. Davies had made six prior trips to Lima, twice with Spedding, with Hollister wiring £26,000 to them while abroad. Text exchanges showed plans to make the drug runs a regular monthly gig.
Courts Deliver Heavy Sentences
Faced with overwhelming evidence, Davies and Spedding pleaded guilty to conspiring to import class A drugs. Hollister denied involvement but was found guilty by a jury at Croydon Crown Court in December 2022.
On 17 April 2023, Hollister received a hefty 11-year prison sentence. Davies was jailed for nine years and four months, while Spedding was handed four years behind bars for her role.
This bust deals a serious blow to international drug smuggling networks using South America as their pipeline.
