Gun Crime Ring Busted in London: Two Sentenced at Croydon Crown Court
Bekki Dean, 27, from Carshalton, and Bradley Clancy, 39, no fixed address, were locked up for five and 12 years respectively at Croydon Crown Court on Thursday, 11 February.
Deadly Glock Found in Louis Vuitton Bag During Police Stop
The pair were convicted in September 2020 after a high-profile trial. Dean was found guilty of conspiracy to transfer a firearm, plus possession of a firearm and ammunition. Clancy was convicted of possession with intent to endanger life and conspiracy to transfer a firearm.
Their arrest came after a targeted police operation against gun crime in London. Just before 9pm on 14 August 2019, specialist firearms officers stopped a black Volkswagen Polo on Peterborough Road in Carshalton, driven by Dean.
When questioned, Dean admitted there was a gun inside a Louis Vuitton bag on the passenger seat. Inside the brown LV bag was a smaller black bag containing a loaded Glock 19, 9mm pistol, and ammo magazine.
Texts and DNA Link Clancy to the Firearm
Dean was arrested on the spot but refused to name who pressured her to carry the deadly weapon. Phone records revealed calls and texts between Dean and Clancy in the hours leading up to her arrest, with Clancy’s phone nearby during the police stop.
Police later arrested Clancy on 17 October 2019. DNA swabs from him matched traces found on the gun’s muzzle, tying him directly to the firearm Dean was transporting.
Detective Praises ‘Safe Removal’ of Dangerous Weapon
Detective Constable Andy Snazell said: “This stop led to the safe removal of a dangerous firearm from London’s streets. The convictions show how seriously police and courts treat gun crime. Dean and Clancy now face substantial jail time.”
