Kent Police smash massive cannabis haul in Gravesend sting

Over a tonne of cannabis seized in major bust

Kent Police have landed a massive blow against organised crime after seizing more than 1,300 kilograms of cannabis in a daring operation. The haul, worth over £1 million on the streets, was uncovered after officers stopped a Ford Transit van on Wrotham Road, Gravesend, on the afternoon of Wednesday, 13 November 2024. Inside, they found 500kg of packed cannabis.

Follow-up raid nets another 800kg in London

The investigation quickly led police to a property in Herne Hill, southeast London, where another 800 kilograms of cannabis was seized later that same day. The enormous drug bust has dramatically disrupted a major trafficking network.

Two men charged and remanded in custody

Two suspects were arrested on the spot and charged with possession of cannabis with intent to supply:

  • Jack Phillips, 69, of Poplar Road, Herne Hill
  • Ramesh Tuladhar, 57, of Norcott Road, Stoke Newington

They appeared before Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 15 November and were remanded in custody. Both are set to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on a date yet to be confirmed.

Kent Police vow to crack down on organised crime

“This significant seizure demonstrates our commitment to disrupting and dismantling organised crime networks that attempt to profit from the illegal drug trade. These operations not only harm individuals but also communities, and we will continue to take robust action to tackle this activity.”

The investigation is ongoing. Kent Police urge anyone with information about drug trafficking to contact them or Crimestoppers anonymously.
