Drug Duo Caught Red-Handed at Heathrow After Colombian Sting!
Michael Williams, 37, and Jessica Waldron, 36, thought they were smuggling 22 kilos of cocaine into the UK. But Colombian police had other plans.
Colombian Police Outsmart Drug Couriers
In December 2019, Williams and Waldron landed at Heathrow from Bogota, Colombia. Their checked baggage was supposed to carry hefty blocks of coke. Unknown to them, Colombian cops – working with the National Crime Agency (NCA) – had already searched their luggage at Bogota airport. They removed the drugs and swapped them for blocks of wood.
National Crime Agency Snaps Up Duo at Heathrow
Border Force officers backed a dramatic NCA swoop when the pair arrived at Heathrow. Both were arrested and charged with attempting to import class A drugs. They later pleaded guilty.
Six Years and Eight Months Behind Bars
Today, Williams and Waldron were sentenced to six years and eight months each for drug trafficking.
“Organised crime groups need couriers like Waldron and Williams for their business model to function,” said Darren Barr, NCA Heathrow Operations Manager. “Their role is crucial in a chain that starts with cartels in South America and ends with violent street gangs across UK towns and cities. I hope these sentences make potential offenders think twice. It simply isn’t worth it.”
