Drugs Bust: Two Caught Peddling Crack and Heroin in Canterbury
Alfie Bean and Riley Day Nabbed in Sandgate Drug Sting
Police from the County Line and Gangs Team arrested 18-year-old Alfie Bean on November 9, 2022, after picking up intel linking him to known drug dealing phone lines. Bean was caught red-handed with his pal Riley Day at a shop on Sandgate Road. Officers suspected Day, 22, of being caught up in drug trafficking too.
Heroin, Crack, and Hob Phones Seized in Search
Following their arrests, officers seized Bean’s phone and searched a shared address in town. They uncovered heroin, crack cocaine, and a hob phone—a tool often used by dealers to avoid detection.
Clear Links to Multiple County Drug Networks
Detectives found evidence tying both men to two major county-wide drug rings. Their phones contained proof of drug supply and pictures showing the pair flaunting cash and drugs.
Sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court
At Canterbury Crown Court on February 23, 2023, Bean and Day both pled guilty to supplying crack cocaine and heroin, as well as possessing the drugs with intent to supply. Bean was sentenced to two and a half years in a Young Offenders Institute. Day received a two year and eight month prison sentence.
“The misuse of drugs can cause misery in people’s lives,” said Detective Constable Josh Cooper. “We will continue to disrupt and stop criminals like these from operating in this county. We regularly target dealers looking for a quick profit, often unaware of the harm they cause vulnerable people. Seizing drugs and breaking up county line networks is key to making Kent safer.”
