Knife-Threat Duo Sent Down After Terrifying Dad and Son in Newcastle-under-Lyme
Youth Held Over Armed Robbery
Two men have been locked up for threatening a father and son with knives in Newcastle-under-Lyme last year. Yusuf Kose, 18, from Meadow Lane, Newcastle, was slammed with 18 months in a young offenders institution at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Monday (21 March).
Kose pleaded guilty to threatening a person with a blade in public, breaching a criminal behaviour order, and theft.
Accomplice Also Sentenced
Garry Lawton, 20, from Brickhouse Street, Burslem, was jailed for 12 months after admitting to making threats with a knife and theft.
But that’s not all. Lawton was also handed a six-year sentence to run concurrently for separate offences including assault with intent to rob and robbery from an incident in August 2019.
How The Crime Unfolded
The court heard the men flagged down a car on Douglas Avenue, Newcastle, on 3 May 2021, pretending they needed help. When the driver stopped, Kose and Lawton pulled knives and stole a wallet containing about £200.
Police Praise Public Support
PC Adam Coomer, leading the investigation, said: “Kose and Lawton premeditated this theft and caused significant distress to the victims and the wider community.”
“I’m grateful to the local residents who helped police with door-to-door enquiries and CCTV leads. These men carried offensive weapons and spread alarm around the area.”
“I’m happy justice has been served and we will continue to pursue anyone who uses violence for criminal gain.”
