Two thugs jailed for 20 years after knife-point burglary terror in Swindon
Brutal Burglary Shakes Swindon Neighbourhood
Martin Coombs, 25, and Jay Stokes, 32, have been locked up for a combined 20 years following a terrifying knife-point burglary at a home in Swindon. The duo forced their way into a property on Verwood Close, Park North, on 29 November last year, attacking the female occupant in her 30s while demanding drugs and cash.
Knife Attack and Theft
The victim was slashed on her hands and assaulted during the violent raid. After the horrific attack, the pair ransacked the flat, stole cash, then fled. The traumatised woman, left injured and shaken, reported the crime, leading to the suspects’ quick arrest.
CCTV Proves Guilt
At Swindon Crown Court, vital lift CCTV footage showed Coombs and Stokes discussing the burglary before and after the crime, sealing their fate. Coombs was sentenced to nine years, while Stokes got 11 years for burglary plus 18 months for a drug offence — a total of 12 years and 8 months behind bars.
Police Praise Investigation and Justice Served
“This was an awful, targeted attack on a vulnerable woman, leaving her with serious injuries,” said Detective Inspector Sarah Champion. “Despite clear evidence showing their planning and guilt, they pleaded not guilty — forcing the victim to relive the trauma in court.”
DI Champion also lauded the investigation team for their “hard work in piecing together evidence,” highlighting the force’s ongoing commitment to cracking down on invasive burglaries and protecting communities.
The harsh sentences send a stark warning to criminals targeting people in their own homes — justice will be swift and severe.
