Drug Duo Busted in Broad Daylight Swap in Glenrothes

Mohammed Asif, 50, from Glenrothes, and Fikret Ugurlu, 40, from Wembley, London, were caught red-handed in a drug deal staged right in a public car park on 7 February 2022.

Cash for Cannabis: The Sting Unfolds

Ugurlu drove all the way up to Scotland to meet Asif, exchanging bags of Class B cannabis for stacks of cash. After the deal, Asif headed home to stash some of the haul before returning for a second meet-up.

Police watching the pair swooped in to make arrests. Officers found 16 kilograms of cannabis in Asif’s car, packed in two laundry bags, and an extra five kilograms hidden in his garage. The drugs were worth a whopping £84,000 wholesale.

Meanwhile, a search of Ugurlu’s van uncovered £45,000 neatly bundled under the passenger seat.

Sentenced in Glasgow: Justice Served

Both men pleaded guilty last February. At Glasgow High Court, Asif was slammed with a six-year sentence, while Ugurlu got two years and eight months behind bars.

“Asif and Ugurlu carried out their criminality in a public car park, swapping illegal drugs for cash in broad daylight. But they were unaware we were watching their every move,” said Rob Miles, NCA Scotland Operations Manager.

“The Organised Crime Partnership will continue to tackle drug crime and ensure those involved in the illegal supply of drugs in Scotland are brought to justice.”

Detective Chief Inspector Steven Elliot of Police Scotland added: “This conviction shows our ongoing commitment to targeting drug supply across Scotland. We rely heavily on local communities to help disrupt the trade and bring offenders to justice.”
