Brutal Brawl Ends in Horror for Young Man
Wayne Kavanagh, 32, and Thomas Sitek, 27, were slammed with heavy sentences at Basildon Crown Court on Thursday after pleading guilty to serious charges over a savage attack in Rochford.
Boxing Game Turns into Nightmare
In the early hours of 22 January, a woman arrived at a Canewdon address to find Kavanagh, Sitek, and a young man they’d just met sparring with boxing gloves. Spirits were high, but the atmosphere quickly soured.
Forty-five minutes in, Kavanagh began battering the victim like a “punch bag.” When the woman stepped in, Kavanagh threatened her, warning she’d be next.
Mobile footage later exposed Kavanagh filming himself punching the victim, while another showed both men kicking the injured man’s head as he lay helpless on the floor.
Knife Attack and Torture Inside the House
The violence escalated as Kavanagh snatched the woman’s phone to stop her calling for help and stabbed the victim in the back with a kitchen knife. The pair discussed wrapping him in a rug or even setting the house on fire.
The victim suffered multiple injuries: a stab wound to the back, a severed right earlobe, facial swelling, a minor brain bleed, and defensive wounds. The attack dragged on for hours until both men fell asleep, leaving the victim unconscious on the floor.
Justice Served – Long Jail Terms for Attackers
Kavanagh, from Shoeburyness, copped 14 years and 8 months, combining a tough prison term with an extended licence. Sitek, from Leigh, was handed 10 years and 6 months behind bars.
Temporary Detective Constable Chris Horton said: “This was a truly horrifying attack, almost defying belief in its brutality and utterly senseless nature. Kavanagh and Sitek had only met the victim that evening but inflicted grievous injury within hours.
“They held a defenseless witness against her will, laughing as she cried, filming their abuse with no mercy.”
“Thanks to the bravery of the witness, both defendants were swiftly caught. Facing overwhelming evidence, they had no option but to plead guilty.”
“They now face long jail sentences to reflect on their horrific actions.”
