Brutal Murder Shocks Town: Two Men Found Guilty of Killing Blaine Hammond
Two 23-year-olds have been convicted of the savage murder of Blaine Hammond, 22, in a chilling attack last December.
Beaten and Dumped Like Rubbish
On the morning of December 3, Blaine was viciously assaulted by Louis Whelan and Anthony Keating. The attackers then dragged his battered body across the street and dumped it in a disused exchange box on Saltburn Road. Emergency crews rushed to the scene but Blaine was tragically pronounced dead.
Justice After Four-Week Trial
Police launched an intense investigation, piecing together CCTV footage, forensic evidence, and door-to-door enquiries. Whelan, from Watling Street, Towcester, and Keating, from Palmerston Road, sunderland/" title="Sunderland" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Sunderland, were arrested and charged with murder.
After a gruelling four-week trial at Newcastle Crown Court, a jury found the pair guilty of Blaine’s murder. They were remanded in custody and await sentencing.
Police Praise Community and Call for Closure
“No verdict will ever take away the pain, but hopefully this guilty verdict brings some closure to Blaine’s loved ones,” said Detective Chief Inspector Sharon Chatterton. “This was a brutal attack that has left a family grieving for their son, brother, nephew, uncle, grandson and dear friend. The offenders prolonged their denial, making the family suffer through a lengthy trial before seeing justice done. “I want to thank the dedicated officers and local community who helped bring this case to a successful conclusion.”
