Uber Driver Jailed for Sexually Assaulting Vulnerable Female Passenger
An Uber driver has been locked up for sexually assaulting a female passenger who was in a vulnerable state. Temur Shah, 45, from Harrow, was sentenced to 16 months behind bars following a Met Police investigation.
Shameless Assault on Vulnerable Passenger
Shah, a private hire driver, committed the shocking attack during a ride in the early hours of 15 January 2018. The victim, a 27-year-old woman feeling unwell, was picked up in London’s West End.
During the journey, Shah forced the woman to the front seat. When she felt sick and leaned out of the vehicle to be sick, Shah sexually assaulted her, ignoring her clear distress. The victim had no phone battery left and no money, so she stayed in the cab despite the ordeal.
Justice Served at Isleworth Crown Court
After a week-long trial, Shah was found guilty on 14 October at Isleworth Crown Court. He was sentenced on 12 November. Alongside the jail term, Shah received a Sexual Harm Prevention Order. He is banned from driving taxis or private hire vehicles anywhere in England and Wales indefinitely and will remain on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.
Police and Uber Play Key Roles in Investigation
The successful conviction followed a thorough probe by the Met’s Taxi and Private Hire Policing Team, partly funded by Transport for London. Investigators worked closely with Uber and tracked GPS and CCTV evidence to nail Shah.
“The investigation uncovered clear evidence of Shah’s actions, ensuring justice for the victim,” said a Met Police spokesperson.
Shah was arrested on 2 February 2018 and charged with sexual assault on 19 January before his conviction.
