151mph Audi TT RS Caught Racing Down M23 – Driver Faces Court Fury

Shocking footage shows a young driver caught doing 151mph in an Audi TT RS on the M23 – more than double the 70mph limit. The reckless stunt, filmed by Sussex Police’s safety camera team, has landed the driver with a dangerous driving conviction.

Blazing Speed on the M23

The incident happened northbound at Crawley on 25 August 2018. The Audi was spotted flashing past traffic at a terrifying 151mph, putting lives at serious risk. The safety camera team, parked clearly in full view, caught every second of the daring speed breach.

Driver Brought to Justice

After tracing the driver, 21-year-old builder Ricardo Thompson from Lancing was hauled before Crawley Magistrates’ Court on 22 May. Thompson admitted dangerous driving, apologising in interview and claiming he was speeding to get to work on time.

  • Disqualified from driving for 15 months
  • Ordered to perform 150 hours of unpaid work
  • Fined £85 plus £85 victim surcharge
  • Must pass extended driving retest before regaining licence

Safety Warning From Police

“Speed restrictions are there for a reason – not a target,” said Chris Snell from the Sussex Police Safety Camera Team. “Speeding reduces your reaction time. It leads to devastating consequences for drivers, families, and emergency crews.”

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service have launched a speeding prevention month warning after stats revealed 16 died and 239 suffered serious injuries in speed-related crashes across Sussex last year.

Deadly Dangers on the Roads

With hazards like wildlife, debris and dense traffic, speeding like Thompson’s magnifies risks massively. Police urge all drivers: slow down or face the dire consequences.
