Woman Jailed for Pocketing £1,000 Raised for Dead Baby's Memorial
Fake Fundraiser Scams Kind-Hearted Donors
Chanel Bailey, 26, has been locked up after raising £1,000 in a crowdfunding campaign meant to honour a baby girl who sadly passed away. Instead of using the money for a memorial, Bailey kept the cash for herself.
Betrayed Trust of Generous Supporters
Bailey launched the fundraiser after befriending a woman whose premature baby died from a brain tumour. A total of 28 donors contributed, believing their money would go to a heartfelt cause.
Police Slam Scammer’s “Cunning and Manipulative” Deception
“Chanel Bailey took advantage of her victims’ pain and the charitable spirit of many people, just so she could treat herself on other people’s hard-earned money,” said Detective Inspector 123. “The deception was cunning and manipulative and I am pleased the courts recognised this. There is absolutely no excuse for her actions and she is deserving of the prison sentence she will now have to serve.”
Justice served as Bailey now faces time behind bars for this cruel betrayal of kindness.
