High-Tech Hideaway Equipped to Evade Detection

The two-storey secret lair featured top-notch extraction systems to mask smells, soundproof insulation, pricey machinery, and even staff living quarters. Experts reckon it cost over £1 million to build.

More than 8.5 tonnes of tobacco, worth upwards of £3 million in unpaid duty, was seized. Removing all the gear took nine fully loaded lorries.

HMRC Slams Organised Crime Behind Tobacco Scam

“This was one of the most sophisticated tobacco factories we have ever uncovered,” said Richard, Head of Operations at HMRC’s Fraud Investigation Service. “Our work with international partners has dealt a huge blow to organised crime.

“Illicit tobacco robs vital public services, undercuts honest businesses, and fuels other crimes like gun-running and human trafficking. These criminals don’t care who buys their deadly products.”

“We urge anyone with info on illegal tobacco or alcohol sales to report it online.”

Nine Arrested as Probe Continues

Authorities have arrested nine men so far, with investigations ongoing as they attempt to dismantle this vast crime network.
