150 Firefighters Battle Monster Blaze at Wolverhampton Paper Factory

A huge fire ripped through a paper factory in Wolverhampton overnight, sending flames 20 feet into the sky and forcing road closures. The massive blaze lit up the night on Wobaston Road, with firefighters battling the inferno for hours.

Massive Fire Forces Motorway Closure

The fire, which broke out shortly after midnight at the industrial unit in Fordhouses, sparked chaos as smoke and flames threatened to close the nearby M56 motorway. At the peak, 150 firefighters from across the Midlands were on the scene, supported by 20 fire engines and two aerial ladders.

Flames shot out of the roof, visible for miles, prompting officials to warn local residents to keep windows and doors shut to avoid smoke inhalation. The fire service also closed roads between the A449 Stafford Road and The Droveway, though these have since reopened.

Long Night for Fire Crews

Firefighters spent over nine hours battling the stubborn blaze, which remained alight well into Thursday morning. The West Midlands Fire Service called in 20 crews from across the region to get the fire under control.

One firefighter was treated by paramedics at the scene for injuries sustained during the operation. Despite the scale of the fire, crews remain on-site working to fully extinguish the flames.
