Teen Charged With Murder After Railway Road Stabbing

Detectives have made a major breakthrough in the tragic stabbing death of 19-year-old Matthew Daulby. Henry Houghton, 18, from Scarisbrick, has been charged with murder following a violent brawl on Railway Road in the early hours of Saturday, July 29.

Stabbing Scene Turns Deadly

Emergency services were called at 12:05am to reports of a disturbance. At the scene, Matthew was found with fatal stab wounds. Despite rushed efforts by paramedics, he later died in hospital.

A second 19-year-old man also suffered stab injuries but has since been treated and released from hospital.

Multiple Arrests as Investigation Widens

A postmortem confirmed Matthew’s death was caused by a stab wound, prompting police to launch a murder investigation. Henry Houghton was arrested on Sunday, August 3, charged with murder, and remanded in custody ahead of his Preston magistrates’ hearing.

Meanwhile, five others have been arrested in connection with the violent clash:

  • Three 19-year-old men from Maghull, Lydiate, and Liverpool – held on suspicion of violent disorder.
  • A 63-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman from Aughton – arrested for perverting the course of justice.
  • A 20-year-old man from Ormskirk – initially held for murder but released on conditional bail until October 30.
  • Two 19-year-olds, from Liverpool and Melling – arrested for affray and released on bail until October 14.

Police Plea: Come Forward With Evidence

Officers are urging anyone with information, CCTV, dashcam, or mobile footage from the area to assist their investigation. Witnesses should call police on 101 quoting log 1007 of July 29, 2023.
