5 Years On, Dark Mystery of Johnny Robbins and Daniel Shaw Murders
Johnny Robbins vanished on March 21, 2018, aged just 33. Police believe he was brutally tortured before being murdered — but his body remains missing to this day.
Johnny’s death is chillingly tied to the shooting of Daniel Shaw, found with gunshot wounds in Coventry’s Tile Hill area four days later on March 25, 2018.
Key Clues: Audi SQ5 and Mysterious Killer on CCTV
Investigators think Johnny was taken to Daniel Shaw’s home in Torrington Avenue on the day he vanished. A few arrests have been made, but no charges so far.
Now, cops have released images of a distinctive Audi SQ5 that they believe transported Johnny after he was kidnapped. The car was found in Birmingham 18 months later and has undergone thorough forensic examination.
They’re also hunting a man caught on CCTV wearing a motorcycle helmet and a van seen near Shaw’s home just before the shooting.
Wanted Man Ryan Hobday and the Stonewall of Silence
Ryan Hobday, 28 at the time and from Coventry, is wanted in connection to the murders. Police suspect he may also be dead, but his whereabouts are still unknown.
The community’s silence has kept the killers free — five years and counting. Police and Crimestoppers have now upped the stakes with a reward of up to £20,000 for vital information.
Families Plead for Justice and a Memorial for Johnny
Johnny’s mother, Ginnie Robbins, spoke out: “What happened five years ago is still incomprehensible. We live daily with unanswered questions and deep sadness.”
She announced plans for a memorial this May, as the family can’t lay Johnny to rest without justice.
“We’ve waited in vain to be able to lay Johnny to rest properly. The time has come to pay tribute with a memorial service.”
Daniel Shaw’s sister, Blossom, added: “We hold on to a little hope that those with information will speak up. Dan was kind-hearted, not involved in gangs, and he is deeply missed.”
Crimestoppers Calls On Public to Break Silence
Alan Edwards, West Midlands Regional Manager for Crimestoppers, urged the public: “If you know anything, please come forward anonymously. Your tip could help Johnny’s and Daniel’s families finally find peace.”
“We’ve helped millions with their anonymous crime tips since the 1980s — your identity will be safe, and you’ll be doing the right thing.”
Police Plea: End Protection of Murderers Now
Detective Superintendent Chris Mallet said: “These sickening murders happened on streets meant to be safe. The killers have been protected for too long. It’s time for justice.”
He called on Coventry residents to call Crimestoppers’ 0800 555 111 or use their anonymous online form. Only tips through Crimestoppers qualify for the reward. Details at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
