Man Arrested After Shocking Assaults in East London
At 6.33pm on Sunday, 27 November, police swooped on Cambridge Heath Road, E1, after members of the public held down a man suspected of attacking a woman. Officers arrested him on suspicion of attempted rape and causing grievous bodily harm.
The victim was rushed to hospital with serious head and facial injuries.
Linked Attack Moments Earlier
About half an hour before this brutal incident, cops were called to Cleveland Way, E1, after reports a man assaulted two women. One suffered minor injuries. But the suspect fled before police arrived.
Authorities believe both attacks are connected and are hunting the same offender.
Police Crack Down on Violence Against Women
Central East Borough commander Mike Hamer said: “I am shocked at these incidents and I’m working closely with the investigation team to ensure it is dealt with carefully, but efficiently.”
He added: “Violence against women and girls has no place in our society and we will work around the clock to bring this offender to justice.”
Victims are receiving support from the police’s rape and serious sexual offences team as well as assistance from Tower Hamlets council.
