Heroic Cop and Police Dog Snatch Violent Suspect in Balby
PC Davidson and his police dog, PD Benson, were celebrated last week at the inaugural South Yorkshire Police Federation (SYPF) awards ceremony in Sheffield. The duo’s brave actions back in September 2021 earned them top honours.
Chase Turns Dangerous
On Sunday, September 19, PC Davidson and PD Benson rushed to Carr Hill, Balby, after reports of a violent 31-year-old wanted man causing havoc. The suspect fled before their arrival but was soon tracked down by the pair. Armed with a glass bottle, the man refused to cooperate when confronted. PC Davidson explained, “I asked him to put the bottle down or I would release PD Benson.” The suspect tried to escape instead.
Things quickly escalated when the suspect’s friend unleashed a ‘Pit Bull’ type dog. PD Benson suffered painful cuts to his face and muzzle but stayed laser-focused. Despite the attack, Benson pressed on and successfully helped arrest the man, with Davidson backing him every step of the way.
Unbreakable Bond Between Man and Dog
PC Davidson, a seasoned cop of eight years, praised his four-month-old partnership with PD Benson. “Their bond has grown from strength to strength,” he said. Davidson highlighted Benson’s tireless dedication to protecting him and South Yorkshire residents.
Commendations Pour In
Although PD Benson missed the awards event on June 16, PC Davidson proudly accepted their recognition. Steve Kent, Chair of South Yorkshire Police Federation, hailed the pair’s teamwork and bravery. He stated, “This is police teamwork at its best. PD Benson saved his handler and caught the criminal despite being attacked.”
South Yorkshire should be proud of these fearless officers who risk everything to keep communities safe.
