Hinkley Point Worker Bus Crashes on A39 – Many Injured

A double-decker bus ferrying Hinkley Point employees overturned early this morning, leaving numerous workers injured. The crash happened around 6 a.m. on the A39 near Sandford Hill, Bridgwater. Emergency crews rushed to the scene to help the injured and rescue several trapped passengers.

What Happened?

About 80 workers were reportedly on board, heading to their next shift at the nuclear power station, just eight miles away. A source said the bus “swerved to avoid a motorbike in icy conditions,” leading to the devastating rollover.

Three air ambulances have been deployed, flying victims to bristol/" title="Bristol" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Bristol Royal Infirmary. Medics have set up a triage area on-site to treat the injured.

Emergency Services Declare Major Incident

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson confirmed a major incident has been declared. Fire, police, and ambulance units are all at the scene dealing with the aftermath. Travel in and out of the area has been suspended while emergency operations continue.

A spokesman for Hinkley Point said: “We cannot comment on how many workers are involved or injured at this time. Emergency services are on the scene, and travel to and from the site has been suspended.”
