Stolen Car Chase Ends with Firearm Seizure and Arrest in Lambeth
Police arrested a man and recovered a firearm after a stolen Toyota Yaris was spotted speeding through Brixton Hill late Tuesday night.
High-Speed Pursuit Through South London
At 11:30pm on 21 January, officers saw the reported stolen Yaris jump a red light. When they signalled the driver to stop, he sped off, sparking a tense chase.
The getaway car smashed into a kerb in Harleyford Road, Vauxhall, blowing out its tyres and forcing it to a halt. The driver bolted but was chased down and arrested in Langley Lane.
Suspect Found With Revolver and Drugs
After arrest, police searched a bag the man dropped and uncovered a suspected revolver, ammunition, and a small amount of cannabis. The firearms and ammo are now undergoing forensic tests.
The suspect, a teen, faces charges for possession of a firearm and taking a vehicle without consent. He remains in custody at a south London police station.
Met Police Praise Officers as Gun Taken Off London Streets
“This was excellent work by the officers who showed great tenacity during the pursuit and arrest of this man,” said Acting Detective Inspector Claire Christmas. “Thanks to their hard work, a stolen car was recovered and, most importantly, a suspected firearm taken off the streets of London.”
The Metropolitan Police continue their crackdown on violent crime, working round the clock to hunt offenders, seize weapons, and keep Londoners safe.
