Man Arrested After Attempted Murder Attack on Sussex Police
A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after two Sussex Police officers and another man were hit by a speeding vehicle in Littlehampton in the early hours.
Deliberate Attack on Police During Drugs Check
The shocking incident unfolded at around 1:05am near the Bodyshop roundabout on the A259. The officers, conducting a routine drugs check, had detained a man when a Mercedes-Benz saloon sped towards them, striking the officers and the detained man.
All three victims were rushed to hospital with serious injuries. Thankfully, police say their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Driver Flees but Caught; Passengers Still at Large
The 20-year-old driver fled the scene but was quickly caught and arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. However, two passengers who escaped on foot remain on the run.
Assistant Chief Constable Julia Chapman said: “This is being investigated as a deliberate attack on two police officers in the course of carrying out their duties.”
She added: “We urge the public to help us trace and bring to justice all those involved.”
Road Closure and Appeal for Witnesses
