Bogus Cops Chase Ends in High-Speed BMW Drama

Kent Police have backed the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit (ERSOU) in a high-stakes probe after three men conned a woman in her 70s by pretending to be police officers. The shocking scam first unfolded on Friday 26 August 2022, when the elderly victim was duped into handing over a large sum of cash to a fake officer who visited her home. The crooks had warned her of “fraudulent activity” on her bank account via phone calls.

Police Chase on M20 After Suspicious BMW Spotted

Just days later, on Tuesday 30 August, police spotted a suspicious BMW near the victim’s home. When officers signalled the car to stop with flashing blue lights, the suspects floored it instead. A nail-biting pursuit erupted onto the M20 motorway, with the BMW recklessly speeding and weaving to dodge capture.

Crash and Arrest as Fugitives Flee on Foot

The chase ended dramatically in Sidcup, Greater London, after the BMW rammed a police vehicle. The three occupants bolted on foot, but were caught nearby and arrested. The men, all in their 20s and from London, face charges of fraud, driving offences, and impersonating police.

Ongoing Investigation and Bail Arranged

Detectives are digging deeper into the case. The trio remain on bail as enquiries continue. They are expected to return to a police station on 28 September to face further questioning.
