High-Speed Drama in Canterbury: Driver Flees Cops at Dawn

Dangerous Driving Sparks Early Morning Police Chase

Shortly before 3am on Saturday, 12 March 2022, police on patrol spotted a car tearing recklessly along St Stephen’s Hill, Canterbury. When officers signalled for the vehicle to stop, it did the exact opposite — speeding off and disappearing into the night.

Abandoned Car and a Canine Crackdown

Minutes later, the runaway vehicle was found abandoned in Broadbank Way. That’s when Police Dog Yankee and his handler were called in to track down the high-risk driver. Yankee wasted no time, picking up the scent and leading the team to Thanington Park, about half a mile from the car.

Driver Nabbed and Arrested

In the park, officers found a man matching the driver’s description and took him into custody. The suspect, a man in his 30s from Ashford, now faces a slew of charges including:

  • Failing to stop for police
  • Dangerous driving
  • Driving under the influence
  • Driving without insurance
  • Driving while disqualified

He has since been released under investigation as police continue their enquiries.
