Altaf Hussain, the controversial Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) figure, was arrested today, Tuesday 11 June, at a north west London address. The 60-something was taken in connection with inflammatory speeches linked to the Pakistani political group.
Suspected of Encouraging Crime Under Serious Crime Act
Hussain faces suspicion of intentionally encouraging or assisting criminal offences under Section 44 of the Serious Crime Act 2007. He was detained under PACE and is now held in a south London police station.
Police Launch Multiple Searches in London
Officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command are conducting thorough searches at Hussain’s home and an additional commercial site in north west London. The probe centres around a speech broadcast in August 2016, along with other speeches by Hussain, stirring serious concerns.

Detectives have been working closely with Pakistani officials throughout the inquiry, which remains active. The Met confirmed enquiries are continuing as they dig deeper into the case.
