Shock in Leigh-on-Sea as Sir David Amess MP Stabbed to Death
Rapid Police Response Fails to Save MP
Just after midday today, Essex Police were called to a stabbing on Eastwood Road North, Leigh-on-Sea. Officers arrived within minutes to find Sir David Amess MP gravely injured with multiple stab wounds. Despite frantic efforts by police and East of England Ambulance Service paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Suspect Arrested at Scene – Investigation Underway
A 25-year-old man was immediately arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody. Police recovered a knife from the scene and confirmed no one else is being sought in connection with the attack.
The Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Counter Terror Command have taken over the investigation. While authorities have not ruled out terrorism, they stress the probe is in its early stages and remain open-minded.

Chief Constable BJ Harrington described the day as “tragic” for Sir David’s family, friends, and the entire Essex community. “Sir David devoted his life to serving Essex,” Harrington said. “He was carrying out his duties today when his life was horrifically cut short.”
