High-Speed Chase Ends in Crashing Chaos in Orpington
Two suspects are in custody after a dramatic police chase through Orpington, Kent, ended with a car smashing into a property and tearing up a gas main.
VW Passat Crashes, Gas Main Fractured
The high-speed pursuit came to a shuddering halt just after 8.15pm on Wednesday when the VW Passat careered off the road and ploughed into a house on Mountview Road. The collision fractured a gas main, releasing a large gas cloud and prompting urgent evacuations.
- Nearby residents ordered to evacuate or keep windows and doors shut.
- Gas engineers currently digging to repair the damage amid major road closures.
- Perry Hall Road and Mountview Road remain closed, disrupting local bus route 61 with diversions in place.
Manhunt in Woodland as Suspects Flee
After the crash, the two occupants fled the scene on foot, splitting in different directions and disappearing into nearby woodland. The police responded with dog handlers and a helicopter to track them down.
“A police dog from @MetTaskforce was deployed and guided officers to both suspects, who were located attempting to hide,” authorities confirmed.
Both are now in police custody as an extensive investigation into the chase and crash remains ongoing. A significant police presence continues at the scene.
The Met Police have been approached for a statement.
