A 12-year-old boy suffered serious leg injuries after a high-speed jet ski crash near Calshot Spit, prompting a dramatic air ambulance rescue yesterday afternoon.

The terrifying incident unfolded just after 2pm on Sunday in the Solent. Two jet skis carrying two adults and two children collided, sparking an urgent multi-agency response.

The Gosport Lifeboat, already on patrol nearby, was first on scene. They helped rescue all four people from the water and brought them safely ashore at Calshot.
Grim Injuries, Quick Action
Paramedics assessed the casualties at the scene. One child, aged 12, had serious leg injuries believed to be caused by the collision impact. Two others received medical attention for minor injuries.
After initial treatment, the young boy was airlifted by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance to Southampton General Hospital for urgent care.
Coastguard and Lifeboats Praise Teamwork
“The UK Coastguard oversaw a swift response to a call at 2:15pm,” a spokesman said. “Two jet skis collided off Calshot Spit, involving two adults and two children. Multiple rescue teams coordinated to bring everyone to safety.”
RNLI Calshot added: “All were recovered to shore safely, but the 12-year-old sustained injuries that required urgent medical intervention. Our casualty care crew worked alongside paramedics and air ambulance teams to get him help fast.”
Hampshire Police and further NHS support were also on site as the rescue unfolded.
