Met Police Nab Man at Heathrow on Terror Charges

Officers from the Met Police Counter Terrorism Command arrested a man in his 20s at Heathrow Airport tonight. The British national was caught at 6.11pm on Wednesday, 3 February, after arriving from Turkey.

Terror Charges Include Preparation and Encouragement

The suspect faces multiple serious charges under the Terrorism Act 2006, including:

  • Preparation of terrorist acts (Section 5) linked to activities in Syria
  • Encouragement of terrorism (Section 1)
  • Dissemination of terrorist publications (Section 2)

Detained Under Police Powers

The man was arrested under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act and is now in custody at a south London police station. Police say the Section 5 charge specifically relates to suspected offences abroad in Syria.
