Reading Stabbing Now Officially Declared Terror Attack

Counter Terrorism Policing has declared last night’s Reading stabbing a terrorist incident. The shocking attack on 20 June has sparked a full terror probe, with the investigation handed over to Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE).

Terror Team Takes Charge

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Dean Haydon confirmed this morning that the stabbing is being treated as terrorism. Officers from CTPSE have worked closely with Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Department throughout the night. A 25-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder remains in police custody as inquiries continue.

Police Appeal for Calm and Cooperation

Thames Valley Police Chief Constable John Campbell expressed deep sorrow. He said:

“I am deeply saddened by the events of last night. This was a truly tragic incident, and our thoughts are with all those affected.”

“Although incidents like this are rare, I understand the fear it has caused locally. Police cordons remain and will be in place for some time as the investigation progresses.”

“We urge the public to avoid speculation and the area while we work with our partners to support the Reading community.”

“If you have any video footage, please do not share it on social media out of respect for victims and their families. Instead, contact us via 101 quoting reference 1159 20/6.”

Community on Edge

The government-backed anti-terror unit promises a further update later today. Police warn residents to stay clear of the scene as detectives dig deeper into what sparked this horrific act in Reading.
