Brutal Knife Attack on Towpath Shocks Southwark
A man in his 40s was viciously slashed in the face during a shocking robbery attempt on a towpath linking Rotherhithe New Road to South Bermondsey Station at around 5.10pm on Wednesday, 6 December.
Two Cyclists Strike Then Flee Empty-Handed
The victim was ambushed by two young men riding the same bike. They dragged him to the ground and slashed his face twice with a knife, trying to steal his phone. When their theft attempt failed, the pair pedalled off towards Stubbs Drive, leaving the injured man bleeding.
Victim Left Scarred, Police Issue Urgent Appeal
The attackers, both white and around 18-20 years old, were dressed in dark clothing. Paramedics treated the victim at the scene before he was rushed to hospital for further care.
Detective Sergeant Darren Quartly of the Met’s Central South Robbery Team said: “This was a violent and frightening attack on an innocent person. The suspects didn’t steal his phone but left him with physical and mental scars that will last a lifetime. We are determined to crack down on crimes like this to make our streets safer.”
“The attack happened near a busy station during rush hour. We’re urging witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.”
