Missing Family’s Safety Sparks Urgent Police Plea

Officers are deeply worried about Constance Marten, 35, Mark Gordon, 48, and their newborn baby. The family has been missing for nearly two weeks, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward immediately.

Stranded on M61, Then Disappeared

Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford, leading the investigation, revealed the family’s ordeal began when their car broke down on the M61 near Bolton on January 5. “They have been on the move ever since, with a newborn baby,” he said. “As far as we know, neither Constance nor the infant has received any medical care since birth.”

Officers were called to a car fire on the M61 hard shoulder near junction four at 6.33pm on January 5. The vehicle, belonging to the family, was ablaze but empty. The fire destroyed most of their belongings.

Family Sighted in Harwich and Colchester

After escaping the burning vehicle and walking to a nearby bridge, police believe the family took a taxi to Liverpool, then travelled on to Harwich early the next morning. On January 7, a member of the public spotted them in Harwich around 9am, followed by confirmed sightings in Colchester over two days.

Last Seen in East Ham – Now Missing Across UK

The trail goes cold after the last confirmed sighting near East Ham Station on January 7. Police investigations have passed through Greater Manchester, Essex, and Metropolitan Police forces as they search for the trio.

“This is a complex investigation,” said Detective Superintendent Basford. “We just need to ensure their safety, especially the baby’s wellbeing, and confirm whether they require medical attention. There’s no indication this disappearance was intentional.”

With the family potentially anywhere in the UK, police emphasise the urgent need for public help. “If anyone sees Constance, Mark, or their baby, please contact us immediately,” a police spokesperson urged.
