Man Held After Fatal Flat Fire Kills Two Toddlers in Nottingham
Two Young Girls Die in Early Morning Blaze
Tragedy struck Clifton in the early hours of Sunday, 20 November, when a fire ripped through a flat on Fairisle Close just after 3am. Two little girls, aged one and three, were rushed to Queen’s Medical Centre along with a woman. Sadly, both toddlers were pronounced dead. The woman remains in critical condition.
Murder Probe Launched as Man Arrested
Police swiftly launched a murder investigation after declaring the fire was deliberately set. A 31-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and is currently in custody.
Detective Chief Inspector Greg McGill said: “This is a deeply tragic incident and we have a large team working tirelessly to understand the full circumstances. Whilst we have now made an arrest, the investigation remains at an early stage. We urge anyone with even the slightest information, CCTV, or dash-cam footage to come forward.”
Community Left Shattered
Inspector Ben Lawrence has been on reassurance patrols in the area after the devastating blaze. He said: “Our thoughts are with the family. This has been an extremely traumatic event for the local community, especially neighbours shocked by the loss of two very young children.”
Patrols have been stepped up to ease concerns.
