Sussex Police Hunt Owners of Stolen Dogs After Major Haul
Sussex Police are on the case after seizing 10 suspected stolen dogs during a Surrey raid last month. They’ve released new photos in a desperate bid to reunite the pooches with their rightful owners.
Ten Dogs Seized in Surrey Raid
On 16 March, cops swooped on a Surrey property and confiscated 10 dogs – a mix of Lurchers and Spaniels. Detectives at Crawley CID are working hand-in-hand with the Rural Crime Team and other forces to identify the pups and track down their owners.
The dogs are now safe and receiving care at a secure location. One success story stands out: Willow, a two-year-old Cocker Spaniel stolen during a Suffolk burglary in July 2020, was joyfully reunited with her family last month.
Police Plea: Spot Your Missing Dog?
Detective Chief Inspector John Wallace said: “We are desperately seeking the lawful owners of the remaining dogs which were seized in the recent warrant. We suspect some dogs have been missing for months. It’s a complex investigation, but we’re leaving no stone unturned.”
“We understand how heartbreaking it is for families waiting for news. To help, we’ve released detailed photos of the dogs, each given a name for the probe. Please email [email protected] with the dog’s name if you recognise one. This is the quickest way to reach our dedicated team.”
Ongoing Care and Investigation
While detectives chase leads, the dogs’ welfare remains top priority. Medical treatment is ongoing, though the exact site of the raid remains secret for operational reasons.
Back in January, Sussex Police kickstarted ‘Operation Collar’, aimed squarely at cracking down on dog thefts with help from the Rural Crime Team.
