Speed Demons, Phone Fiddlers, and Uninsured Drivers Nabbed in Kent Crackdown
Kent Police have slammed the brakes on dangerous driving, handing out 100 traffic offence reports over just three months. The haul includes seven speeders, six motorists caught texting behind the wheel, 24 without seatbelts, and ten uninsured drivers. That’s not all – offenders also ran red lights, drove with no MOT, or took vehicles in unsafe conditions onto the roads.
One Arrested for Drugs, Ten Cars Seized
Amid the crackdown, one driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs. Plus, police seized ten vehicles during the operation.
Special Constables Take a Stand on Road Safety
East Division Special Constables led the charge, with the latest enforcement in Folkestone on 28 May 2022. Special Inspector James Johnston told us, “Kent Police is committed to reducing road deaths and serious injuries. Our Special Constables are passionate about backing up our regular officers to tackle the biggest dangers – speeding, impaired driving, seatbelt abuse, and mobile phone use.”
“Our priority is to take action against drivers who commit the offences we know cause the most serious collisions… We often find other serious violations too,” said Johnston.
He added a stern warning: “Motorists must take responsibility for their safety and that of others. Break the rules, and you will face the consequences.”
How to Join the Fight – Volunteers Wanted!
Running during Volunteers’ Week (1-7 June), Kent Police are urging locals to consider joining the Special Constabulary. These unpaid volunteers hold the same powers as regular cops but dedicate at least 16 hours a month to keeping communities safe – often while juggling full-time jobs.
