Woman Jailed for 14 Years After Deadly High-Speed Chase in Birmingham

High-Speed Pursuit Ends in Tragedy

On 18 May, Thomas Maguire was riding his motorbike along Kings Road when Kerry Fair slammed her car into him. The 39-year-old had been chasing Thomas after being told he’d taken the bike hours earlier from her daughter’s boyfriend’s address.

The bike wasn’t new to trouble – it had been stolen back in 2018 in Birmingham. But Kerry’s chase took a deadly turn.

Reckless Driving at Over 80mph in a 30mph Zone

Before the crash, Fair was caught speeding between 76 and 86 mph in a 30mph zone, chasing Thomas at breakneck speed in her Ford Focus. Moments later, she knocked him off the bike and immediately fled the scene, abandoning the Focus with its engine still running and steering locked on the roadside.

Thomas was rushed to hospital by friends but sadly remained in critical condition for three weeks before passing away on 9 June due to his injuries.

Justice Served: Fair Sentenced for Manslaughter

Fair’s wallet was found at the scene, leading to her quick arrest. Last week at Birmingham Crown Court, she was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to 14 years behind bars.

Detective Inspector Michelle Thurgood blasted Fair’s actions: “At the speed she was travelling, she was reckless to the fact Thomas would be injured. Had she braked earlier, this tragedy could’ve been avoided.”

Family Pay Heartbreaking Tribute

“Thomas is our first thought in the morning and our last at night,” they said. “He is loved and missed every day. No one will ever replace him. We miss his crazy ways, the laughs, and even telling him off.

“He looked after his mum and family, and now we will look after her. We hope to do him proud. With this verdict and sentence, he gets some justice. Rest peacefully, Thomas.”

The community mourns as the family seeks closure after a reckless chase ended in heartbreak.
