Family’s Luggage Snatched at Gatwick While They Were Distracted
A brazen thief made off with a family’s baggage at London Gatwick Airport after catching them off guard. Police are now on the hunt and have released CCTV images of a suspect they want to question in connection with the theft.
What Happened?
- The theft took place at the South Terminal check-in area between 11:35 AM and 11:50 AM on 12 December 2024.
- The victims, a family gearing up for a long-haul flight, were distracted while checking in.
- The stolen bags contained expensive electronics like Apple gadgets, laptops, Sony headphones, as well as house keys, a wallet with bank cards, and scuba gear including snorkels and a wetsuit.
- The thief allegedly jumped on a bus to Crawley after the heist and later tried using the stolen bank cards in Langley Green.
Suspect Description
- Man in his 30s
- Sporting a beard
- Wearing a dark blue jacket, blue jeans, and black trainers
- Donning a dark or brown baseball cap
Police Issue Urgent Appeal
“We are investigating a theft of luggage at Gatwick while the victim was distracted,” said Inspector Mark Robinson of Sussex Police.
“This was a stressful ordeal for the family, who were preparing for a holiday during a busy festive season.”
“We have released CCTV images of a man we want to speak to. Anyone who recognises him should come forward immediately.”
