Fatal Fire Erupts at Beckton Flats
Emergency services rushed to Tollgate Road, Beckton, East London, at around 5:28pm on Thursday, April 6, after reports of a blazing fire in a three-storey block of flats.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB), police, and paramedics scrambled to tackle the fierce blaze that engulfed the first and second floors, with flames licking the third-floor windows.
Harrowing Scene: Flames, Jumps, and Fatalities
Witnesses reported seeing several people leap from the burning building in a desperate bid to escape the inferno.
The LFB deployed an aerial ladder platform and six fire engines from nearby stations including East Ham, Plaistow, and Barking. Around 40 firefighters battled the well-developed blaze as the staircase between the first and second floors was also ablaze.
Tragically, one person was pronounced dead at the scene and multiple others were injured. Five patients were treated onsite before being rushed to hospital.
Road Closures and Emergency Response
Authorities closed Tollgate Road and restricted access on nearby Bradley Stone Road and Valiant Way. Local bus services are diverted, and drivers are urged to avoid the area.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said:
“We sent five ambulance crews, incident response officers, advanced paramedics, and the London Air Ambulance to the scene. Sadly, despite efforts, one person died at the site.”
Investigation Underway
The cause of the fire remains unknown, with inquiries ongoing. The LFB and police continue to work at the scene, and further updates are expected.
