Tragic Crash Claims Young Firefighter Glenn Campbell
A tight-knit firefighting community was rocked last Wednesday when 21-year-old firefighter Glenn Campbell died in a horrific collision. The tragedy happened near the East Lothian villages of Drem and Dirleton, where Glenn’s motorcycle smashed into a tanker.
Fatal Collision on Early Morning Ride
Glenn was riding his striking green Kawasaki ZX 900E1 at around 7:45 AM when he collided with a red Scania tanker. Despite emergency crews rushing to the scene, Glenn was pronounced dead at once. The tanker driver escaped unharmed. Police Scotland have launched a full probe into the crash and urgently want witnesses or any dashcam footage.
Firefighting Community Mourns a Beloved Colleague
Area Commander Marc Pincombe paid tribute, saying Glenn was “well-respected and loved” at North Berwick Community Fire Station. Friends and colleagues remember him as a vibrant spirit with a deep passion for motorbiking.
Glenn’s girlfriend Paige Whyte heartbreakingly called him her “soulmate,” praising his kindness and infectious sense of humour. “Not many believe soulmates exist. I was one of the lucky ones until Glenn came along,” she said, sharing her grief.
Tributes and Memorials Pour In
- Firefighters have added a red line to their social media profiles in Glenn’s honour, symbolising the line of duty.
- A motorcycle convoy was organised by friends to celebrate his love of biking.
- Fellow firefighter Callum Mason called Glenn a “close friend” despite their short time together, highlighting his constant kindness and humour.
The firefighting family stands united, supporting each other and Glenn’s loved ones through this devastating loss. Police continue to appeal for anyone with information to help with the ongoing investigation.
