Man Shot Dead by Armed Police in Southwark Over Crossbow Threat

A man armed with a crossbow was shot dead by armed police in Southwark, London, this morning. The suspect, believed to be in his 30s, tried to break into a property on Bywater Place while threatening harm to the residents inside.

Police Respond to Crossbow Threat

Local officers arrived first and attempted to talk the man down. But when he posed an immediate danger, armed units were called in. By the time they reached the scene, the suspect was inside the property.

Police discharged a firearm. Officers and paramedics rushed to give first aid. Unfortunately, the man later died at the scene.

Residents Hurt and Investigation Underway

Two occupants of the property suffered minor injuries during the incident. Police are working to notify the suspect’s next of kin.

Detective Chief Superintendent Seb Adjei-Addoh said: “My thoughts are with all those affected by this incident. I understand the local community will be concerned at the events that have taken place this morning. We will fully support the IOPC investigation into the full circumstances of what happened.”
