Teen Arrested After Fatal Walthamstow Stabbing
Renell Charles, 16, tragically fatally stabbed in East London. Detectives have made an arrest and identified the victim in a brutal stabbing in Walthamstow.
Arrest Made in Early Hours
A 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder on Sunday, 8 May, after voluntarily attending an east London police station. He remains in custody as the investigation continues.
Renell Charles, also 16, was a local boy. His family are receiving support from specially trained officers.
Brutal Attack Outside School Witnessed by Many
Police were called at 4:09pm on Friday, 5 May, to Markhouse Road, E17, after reports of a stabbing. London’s Air Ambulance and London Ambulance Service rushed to the scene where Renell was found seriously injured.
Despite emergency efforts, Renell tragically died at the scene at 4:39pm.
Detective Appeals for Public’s Help
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Rogers said: “The arrest marks a significant development in our work. Renell’s family have been informed and continue to receive our support.
“This was a shocking act of violence, witnessed by many nearby, including schoolchildren. My thoughts are with those who saw what happened. Anyone with footage or images, please do the right thing and share them with us.”

A post-mortem confirmed the cause of death as a stab wound to the chest.
