Rookie Cops Nab £200K Worth of Class A Drugs on First Solo Patrol
Four fresh-faced Met officers hit the ground running on Wednesday, 4 November, during a weapons sweep at the Bourne Estate, Portpool Lane. At just 5.30pm, their noses caught a whiff of cannabis. Following the scent, they found a hidden stash stuffed inside a grit container.
Massive Haul Found in Grit Container
The package revealed:
- 17 golf ball-sized wraps of a white substance
- Three fist-sized slabs of the same white substance
- One large brick of brown substance
Suspected to be heroin and cocaine – both Class A drugs – this haul has an estimated street value of over £200,000. The officers immediately seized the package and sent it off for forensic testing to trace any links.
New Cops Prove They’re Ready for the Streets
“Arriving at Central North BCU from training school has been a steep learning curve. Just when we feel we’re mastering something, there’s always something new but I’ve enjoyed the challenge,” said PC Craig Goodall.
“We’ve just completed the ten objectives of the street duties course and achieved independent patrol status. Yesterday was our first time out without a senior constable. I was nervous leaving Islington police station alone, but realised how well prepared we were.
“Be curious, they told us – and we certainly were! Our tutors are now trying to convince us it’s not like this every day.”
Commander Praises New Recruits’ Instincts
BCU Commander Raj Kohli hailed the rookies for their sharp instincts. “These officers are a huge asset to the Met. Their professional curiosity helped trace this major drug stash, making our communities safer and preventing violence linked to drug dealing.
“Just six weeks ago, they were training at Hendon. Now, they’ve earned independent patrol status two weeks early. Their first day results are impressive.
“Keeping the public safe and cutting violent crime is our top priority. Thanks to proactive policing like this, we stop these dangerous drugs from destroying lives.”
