Kingston Evacuated After Live Artillery Shells Found

Emergency services swooped on Kingston after 20 live artillery shells were discovered at a property on Manorgate Road. The discovery prompted an immediate safety cordon and evacuations.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal Called In

Police were alerted just before 3:45pm on Wednesday, 15 March 2023. Officers quickly snapped photos of the shells and sent them to the army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, who confirmed the ammunition was still live and dangerous.

Road Closures and Evacuations

  • A 200-metre safety cordon was established around the affected zone.
  • Neighbours and residents of nearby homes were told to evacuate immediately.
  • Manorgate Road and surrounding streets were shut from the Kingston Hill roundabout.

The shells were safely removed, and roads reopened by 4:34pm. The swift response from emergency crews ensured no injuries were reported.
